Recognition

SDVLP’s panel of more than 3,000 trained volunteer attorneys, paralegals, law students, and others assist in staffing legal clinics, provide direct client services, and train and mentor other volunteers. Each year, more than 35 SDVLP volunteers are honored with the Distinguished Service Award for their contributions of 150 or more hours of pro bono service. Those who donate 50 or more hours of time receive the State Bar of California’s Wiley W. Manuel Award. The State Bar commendation is earned annually by more than 100 volunteers.

In addition to volunteer awards, SDVLP’s service to the community has been recognized by AIDS Walk San Diego, Lawyers Club of San Diego, National Conference of Women Bar Associations, Tom Homann Law Association, and the Vietnam Veterans of San Diego. Individual SDVLP staff persons have also received commendations from prominent organizations and groups including California Rural Legal Assistance, California Women Lawyers, Downtown San Diego Partnership, Lawyers Club of San Diego, League of Women Voters, Legal Aid Association of California, L.A. Daily Journal, San Diego County Bar Association, San Diego County Department of Aging & Independence Services, and San Diego Domestic Violence Council.
