AIDS/HIV+ LEGAL SERVICES

The AIDS/HIV Legal Services Project provides legal services to San Diego County residents who are infected with AIDS or HIV. Legal assistance is available on such civil matters as:
  • Estate planning
  • Employment or housing discrimination situations (or other civil rights violations)
  • Bankruptcy and other debtor/creditor problems
  • Insurance difficulties
  • Family law questions
  • Public and disability benefits issues
  • Tax issues
  • Confidentiality concerns
  • Other legal issues arising from your AIDS/HIV+ status.
Infected individuals, their family members and partners may obtain free legal advice by visiting one of SDVLP's confidential legal clinics held at the locations listed below. SDVLP also offers on-going representation to financially eligible clients on a variety of civil legal issues who can also provide proof of their income and proof of their diagnosis.

Criminal Matters/Unlawful Detainers

Please note that SDVLP does not represent clients on criminal matters or in court on unlawful detainers (evictions), although we can provide advice. If you have an unlawful detainer issue, you may contact the Legal Aid Society of San Diego at 619-262-0896 or www.LASSD.org. If you are an indigent defendant in a criminal case, you will be assigned a public defender at your first court appearance. If you can afford to pay for an attorney, you may wish to contact one of the lawyer referral services sponsored by local bar associations.

To access any of SDVLP's legal services to the HIV/AIDS community, please visit one of the following clinics:
